The newest thing I'm experimenting with is creating 3D encaustics like this - I love this stuff! See second image below for a close up detail of the 3D element.
This image was made by gluing tissue paper to a board, leaving lots of wrinkles in the paper. After the glue dried the entire board was covered with encaustic. Then, photos of cutout vases were added and another layer of glue. Next music was scanned and printed onto rice paper and added on top - again covered with encaustic. Finally areas were painted with metallic oil sticks to add a touch of color and darken the outside edges
