Original photo is a photoshop image of flowers composited with shadows. Image was glued to a board then covered with encaustic wax.  Afterwards dental tools etched the top flower which was then painted with metallic oil sticks.  A dark oil stick was used around the outside edges to darkent the texture that was brushed on with additional wax to add depth.

    FYI: Although this was composited in Photoshop, it can also be done by printing the separate images - preferably on rice paper and compositing the images on the board. Make sure to put wax between the images

Here are two panels, each 10" X 10" showing the scale of the Bay Bridge entering San Francisco.  Encaustic, it should be said can and should be touched... at least I encourage you to touch mine -- after they cool and dry that is.

Original photo is of dead flowers, which was glued to a board then covered with encaustic wax.  Afterwards dental tools etched around the image and a hard brush was used on the cooled wax to add some scratchy textures.  Finally areas of the flowers were painted with metallic oil sticks.  Here's a copy of the original photo before encaustic.
